With summer showing signs of coming to an end it's interesting to watch what happens in nature. Tree leaves are already starting to turn, critters are busy fattening themselves up for the leaner winter times (just ask my vegetable garden that has seen a hit from the local squirrels), and even humans seem to be trying to get in those last few camping trips or vacations before roads turn icy.
For me, this time of year tends to become more productive. When I start to realize that nearly 3/4 of the year has passed by, I start to panic a bit about accomplishments and all of the things I hoped to get done in the year. When January arrives, the year feels fresh and it seems natural to plan some things out for the year. By mid-September though, I know I find that many of those goals didn't quite make it into the previous several months.
One of my art goals this year was to have an open studio day for locals to stop by and provide some feedback on what I've created over the last several months. This is still something I would like to do before the weather turns, so keep an eye out on Facebook and here for that announcement soon. I'm guesstimating that the last week of September or early October is the most likely time frame for this to take place.
In the meantime, there are several art happenings taking place in the vicinity. This weekend, on Saturday, September 16, the Longmont ArtWalk will take place on Main Street between 3rd and 6th from 4-8pm. There's also a preview exhibition going on at the Arts Longmont Gallery for the artist studio tour coming September 23-24. You can get more details here. Dona Laurita Gallery in Louisville is doing one final push to raise money for Planned Parenthood. Last day of this event is September 15.
I'm starting to look forward to autumn now. Even though I always hate to see the long, warm days come to an end, I know that there is much beauty to take in as we transition through the seasons. What are you most looking forward to this fall?
